«City Boat» – Ideas competition for an urban hotel in Tribschen

Together with Krucker Partner AG, we entered our interior design concept for a new Lucerne hotel into the competition. Although the project did not come out on top, we still want to present our «City Boat» concept.

In the Tribschen district of Lucerne, a new urban hotel with 140 rooms is being built. For the interior design, the property owners – HG COMMERCIALE and the Central Switzerland Master Buildings Associations (ZBV) – as well as the designated hotel operator Tavolago AG launched an ideas competition. We joined forces with Krucker Partner AG to form a creative planning team and submitted our design concept in early 2022.

A story was at the heart of our concept: two young lovers meet on a boat and decide to make their dream of opening their own hotel come true. In the interior design, we wanted to showcase their characters, common interests and experiences and bring them to life.

In the hotel lobby, the guests step aboard the «City Boat». On the ground floor, we focused on the element of water: softly flowing shapes symbolise a tranquil underwater world. The floor and wall design play with the different blue tones of water. Soft textile elements of different heights and levels of transparency remind us of waves; the seats of sunken treasures.

In line with the water theme, the upper levels lie above the surface of the water. Making a connection to the hotel operator Tavolago AG and the couple’s history, the hotel rooms have a cabin feel. The rooms are lined up next to each other like the ones in the belly of a ship. The rooftop terrace and bar also convey the feeling of being on and by the sea.

Even though our «City Boat» did not set sail in the end, we are very proud of this extraordinary concept and our inspiring collaboration with Krucker Partner AG.
