How long have you been working for Dobas AG?

I’ve been on the Dobas team since June 2023.

Where did your professional journey take you prior to your current position?

After earning a draftsmanship qualification specialising in architecture, I worked for about two years in the field. Since I wanted a new challenge with more creative freedom, I completed a second apprenticeship in 3D design and, after graduating, I worked at the company where I did my apprenticeship. Now I can apply the knowledge from both apprenticeships at Dobas AG.

What main tasks does your daily work involve?

My main objective is to support the project managers. I help them coordinate and organise different tasks. Draughting CAD designs is also part of my daily routine.

How do you stay informed and, more importantly, inspired?

By going through life with an open mind. The most – and best – ideas come when you aren’t looking for them.

What materials make your senses tingle?

Natural materials like wood – especially Swiss pine! What my senses tingle is when the best is brought out of a material by working it the right way and using it in an attractive setting.

What should not be missing from your workplace?

Notepaper, pen and chocolate.

What building and/or space has left a particularly lasting impression on you and why?

That’s a tough question! I can hardly think of one place since there are so many interesting buildings, most of which I haven’t seen in real life... I often think that the history of a project, the construction story or the development process of the design make a building even more fascinating than the final result alone. For instance, I think the Monte Rosa Alpine Hut in Zermatt is very exciting due to its sustainable energy generation and use. Its location makes the hut even more exciting. I also love the mineral baths and spa in Samedan: the rooms are covered from top to bottom in glazed mosaic tiles! There is also a beautiful Swiss stone pine stuebli. Or the market hall in Rotterdam, which I find incredibly interesting in terms of its structure and building physics. And then there is the Fallingwater building by Frank Lloyd Wright, L’Hemisfèric by Santiago Calatrava and many more...

What fills you with joy and pride in your professional life?

When, over the course of a project, more detailed solutions get worked out little by little, and you can feel the imminent result with convincing ideas. So that finally all the individual pieces come together to form a perfect whole like with a puzzle.

What brings you joy in your personal life?

When I get to spend time with good people and nature. Especially the mountains. Most of all when I’m standing on the summit. Ideally with skies and a half-metre of powder snow under my feet.
