How long have you been working for Dobas AG?

I've been working for Dobas since January 2013.

Where did your professional journey take you prior to your current position?

I’m a trained carpenter. After completing my apprenticeship, I worked as a carpenter for two years. From 2000 to 2002 I did a further training to become a qualified wood technician. Prior to my position at Dobas, I worked for nine years as a project manager at a joinery company with 40 employees.

What main tasks does your daily work involve?

In my capacity as a project manager, I make sure we meet our deadlines; liaise between planners, clients and suppliers; perform quality assurance and attend building inspections. And as a certified vocational trainer, I also supervise our apprentices.

How do you stay informed and, more importantly, inspired?

I read the newspaper as well as the weekly SchreinerZeitung and, from time to time, other professional journals.

What materials make your senses tingle?

Usually it’s not one material but the combination of different materials that appeals to me.

What’s lying around your desk that might seem unnecessary to others but is important to you and your motivation?

You won’t find much there that’s unnecessary: I have a small annual agenda, important material samples and several project documents, maybe a few other things.

What building and/or space has left a particularly lasting impression on you and why?

I was very impressed by the Sydney Opera House. I got to see it while travelling through Australia with my wife in 2012. Its original architect, a Dane, had to leave the country before the building was finished because the construction costs had gone dramatically over budget due to structural and technical difficulties. He was only forgiven years later, when the building had become famous around the world. I really like that building.

What fills you with joy and pride in your professional life?

Every project we finish successfully, especially when we receive positive feedback from clients or planners. I feel particularly happy about a project we did at the Dubai Mall in May 2018.

What brings you joy in your personal life?

It always puts a smile on my face when my two kids and my wife give me a warm welcome after coming home from work. Mild summer nights under the stars or going skiing with my family make me happy, too.
