Selina Rehm

Apprentice Draftswoman Interior Architecture

How long have you been working for Dobas AG?

I have started my apprenticeship certificate as draftswoman interior architecture in August 2018.

Where did your career path take you prior to this position?

After secondary school I went to the French part of Switzerland and worked as an Au Pair. This interim year brought a number of benefits. I became much more independent and more mature. Then I’ve began my apprenticeship at Dobas.

What are your main tasks during your apprenticeship?

I support employees and their projects. For example, I draw new plans and continue to work on existing ones. Furthermore, I am responsible for our trainees.

How do you keep yourself informed and inspired in particular?

I stay informed thanks to vocational school. And I gain inspiration, inter alia, when going for a walk. You get confronted with all your emotions and thoughts – this can be very inspiring! In case the analog world is fully exhausted as source of inspiration, I use the platform Pinterest, among other things.

What materials make your senses jump for joy?

In case they are future-oriented and sustainable. However, I sometimes ask myself, what this really means. Do you re-invent existing things? Or do you create something completely new? When using a material, it always has to serve a purpose too.

What odds and ends can one find on your desk, which aren’t essential for your daily work but for yourself and your motivation?

I am trying my best not to have too much odds and ends on my desk. Unnecessary things are mostly more stressful than motivating to me. I need a clear and minimalistic line when it comes to the objects in my nearest surrounding. I make an exception for my private yearly review and my target list though. It motivates me to see what I’ve already accomplished and what I still want to work on.

Which room of your home would you re-design and which ideas would you bring to life?

First, I would have to think about the meaningfulness of a project like this. As I still live with my parents and eventually, I’ll move out… Nonetheless it would be great to re-design our musician room into a bigger creativity room for the whole family.

Professionally speaking, what fulfills you with delight and pride?

Creative work fulfills me, given the opportunity. But so does realistic thinking about how to implement something. I also appreciate the freedom to bring in my inputs and to talk about my needs.

And what floods you with feelings of happiness in private terms?

When I reached my goal to complete all my tasks for once. Or when I am completely in the here and now, just satisfied with and relaxed in the current moment.
