Draftsman

Education and training

  • Certified Draftsman in Architecture, Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training

How long have you been working for Dobas AG?

I’ve been working for Dobas since September 2023.

Where did your professional journey take you prior to your current position?

I completed my four-year training as a draftsman in Architecture in summer 2023.

What are your main tasks as a draftsman?

Drafting and developing designs using the CAD software. I look for ways to reconcile the wishes of project managers, the design team and the client as best as possible.

How do you stay informed and, more importantly, inspired?

One great source are the colleagues who work in my sector. What I see on social media inspires me every day and gets me thinking. I enjoy thinking about how I’d do what I see and add my own ideas to it.

What materials make your senses tingle?

I really like natural stones. Especially marble. It’s a stone that looks dull and boring, but when there is light, its true beauty is revealed.

What should not be missing from your workplace?

My maneki-neko, a paw-shaking cat figurine from Japan.

What building and/or space has left a particularly lasting impression on you and why?

The National Museum of Qatar is particularly impressive to me. I find the angular shapes of the architecture that accompanies us every day quite boring. I love experimenting with shapes and elements and, if possible, standing out from the crowd. Like this building by Jean Nouvel. The exterior shape of the museum is reminiscent of a desert rose which can be found in Qatar’s desert. The interior space is also extraordinary: visitors get to experience a museum shop that looks like a wooden canyon, among other things.

What fills you with joy and pride in your professional life?

When a project has been successfully completed and there are no flaws.

What brings you joy in your personal life?

When I spend time with friends or my family. Experiencing and discovering new things. Giving myself challenges – and overcoming them.
